World Cyanotype Day celebrates its 10th year anniversary this year, with a theme "Cultivating Community". I have to be honest, when I first heard the theme announced, my heart sank -I felt like it gave me nothing to work with: I don't garden and generally stay away from plants, and I also don't like people, and the word "community" doesn't sit well with me, given my upbringing in soviet russia. But then I let all my knee-jerk reaction and automatic repulsion fade away, and I started to think about how does it actually resonate with me. The truth is I am part of the artist community, I do cultivate its growth and support my fellow beings, so there is no reason why I shouldn't respond to the theme. I submitted a print I made using stamps of people (that I made out of foam), and overlaid multiple negatives , making them into flowers that carry a common message. People make flowers. People Flowers.
